- What we are doing: We are filtering water to collect traces of fish DNA. This helps us identify which species are present—particularly critical and endangered fish populations—without catching or harming them.
- Why the bridge? We hang the device from pedestrian bridges to get a consistent flow of water through the filters.
- Is it safe? Yes. This equipment is 100% harmless to people, pets, and wildlife. It only pumps water.
- What to do: Please do not touch or retrieve the device. Leave it undisturbed so our research data remains accurate.

You have found a rain throughfall collector. This device is deployed in the forest to monitor how rainfall affects the local ecosystem.
- What we are doing: As rain passes through the tree canopy and drips down, our collector captures this “throughfall” water. We analyze it for traces of animal DNA, nutrients, and environmental pollutants—giving us valuable data on forest wildlife and ecosystem health, especially during rain events.
- Why the forest? Placing collectors under trees allows us to study how rainwater interacts with the canopy and transports biological markers from animals living above.
- Is it safe? Yes. This equipment is completely harmless to people, pets, and wildlife. It only collects rainwater.
- What to do: Please do not touch, move, or open the collector. Leave it undisturbed so our samples remain uncontaminated.

Olet löytänyt runkovedenkerääjän (rain throughfall collector). Laite on asetettu metsään seuraamaan sateen vaikutuksia paikalliseen ekosysteemiin.
- Mitä teemme: Kun sadevesi valuu puiden latvuston läpi ja tippuu alas, keräämme tämän “runkoveden”. Analysoimme siitä eläinten DNA-jälkiä, ravinteita ja ympäristön epäpuhtauksia—mikä antaa arvokasta tietoa metsän eläimistöstä ja ekosysteemin terveydestä erityisesti sateen aikana.
